Jesus was born in Bethlehem but was raised in the city of Nazareth. As a result, he was called, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Sometimes this is shortened to simply, “The Nazarene.” Thus in the name, “The Church of the Nazarene,” “the Nazarene,” is simply a nickname for Jesus. We are his followers.

 

As a Church of the Nazarene we are part of large international family. We have over 29,000 churches with nearly a quarter-million members. We are represented in

more than 150 world areas and we are growing all the time. The Church of the

Nazarene is a strong proponent of education with a worldwide network of over 50 colleges, universities, and seminaries serving more than 50,000 students in 120 world areas.
